2D OnSite, a CAD PlugIn for Rhino 3D, is designed to bridge the divide between the design office and the work site by empowering site staff to interpret 3D Models and create 2D Site Sketches, eliminating time-consuming and work-flow disrupting requests to the design office for detail clarification.
As an educational tool, 2D OnSite enhances the students journey into the world of 3D Modelling and provides a good understanding of the 3D CAD Workspace.
User Interface (UI)
2D OnSite UI Panels seamlessy fit within the Rhino UI, giving access to all the tools necessary to include 2D Onsite features in the user’s Rhino project.
The UI Panels provide the user with a choice of options to set the properties of a 2D OnSite feature. When the options are set, a single click will launch the algorithm to operate the feature.

Project Scene
The 3D WorkSpace is central to the project scene and usually built around a datum at World Coordinates x,y,z 0,0,0.
The 3D Model is encased with a BoundaryBox, providing a frame of reference to operate the 2D OnSite features.
The DrawPlane is divided into Quads on the Horizontal Plane (Z) at zero elevation. All 2D Geometry is organised on the DrawPlane.
Project Work Flow
Whether a 3D Model is supplied and the user needs basic information from that model . .
. . or if a model needs to be created or modified. 2D OnSite provides a full range of tools to simplify the process.

2D OnSite Features included:
. . . Set the Scene to organise a project by semi-automating the generation of layers, datums and grids.
. . . 3D Measure objects in 3D and screenshot the results straight to the work zone.
. . . Clip View looks inside 3D models to allow site staff to inspect and measure internal details.
. . . View Geometry is user-generated from the 3D Model by accurate picking surface edges.
. . . Remap Geometry to facilitate geometry transfer between 3D and 2D to synchronise sketches with the model.
. . . Site Sketch tools enable the creation of simple or complex, semi-automatic, scaled Site Sketches.
. . . CutFile and Nesting Develop 3D surfaces, creating labeled parts for CNC or manual manufacture.
A detailed list of UI Panels can be explored on the Features page.
